I have to say that the entire experience was much more enjoyable this time around. (sorry Alex) Nicholas was born via a scheduled C section and it was awesome knowing the exact day I would be giving birth. No questions there! It gave me a deadline so I knew at which point I had to have all my nesting done. That was nice. Also, the hospital had changed some policies since last time we were there. They really focus on keeping that baby close to the parents at all times, so now they do all their initial assessments on height and weight, do the APGAR, the first bath, footprints, and security band for baby all right there by your bedside in the recovery room as opposed to whisking the baby away right after he's born to do that stuff. They also handed him right over when they were done with all that and then left us in peace for a while so we could get to know our lil guy and then attempt breast feeding for the first time. They were very protective of that "family bonding time" and we were appreciative of the changes they've made in that respect. It was so neat to be a part of that first bath and all the other things that go on in that first hour after birth. The whole thing is such a wonderful experience!
It's amazing how quickly you fall in love with a new baby. Nicholas is just now a week old and I would already do anything for him! He is a perfect little bundle of joy. Alex has taken to him so much better than we would have ever imagined. He has given the baby about a million kisses so far! Every time he walks by, he bends down and plants one on Nick and says "Mwuah!" Melts my heart. Wonder how long this will last?! ;)
