Alex's first trip to the ER :(
Well we had quite a memorable first night home from the hospital. Lenny, Nicholas, and I got home from the hospital in the afternoon. My mom had offered to pick alex up from daycare and keep him overnight to give us time to settle in with the new baby, but we were excited to get Alex back after being away from him for 3 nights so we declined. We missed him a ton and were anxious to come home w our new baby and just enjoy the night as a fam!
After Lenny picked Zandy pants up from daycare, we drove out to the new house so we could show Nick where we will be living in a few short months. He seemed super excited. :) And rightly so...its a pretty dern cool house!
When we got home from the house, Lenny was in the kitchen fixing dinner and I was in the living room with the boys. Alex was playing around and stood up on the bouncer, and just as I told him to sit down, he of course fell forward and landed on his arm on the edge of the bouncer. He cried a lil bit and was holding his arm, so i told him he shouldn't have been standing in the seat to begin with and that's why he got hurt, then I kissed his arm like I always do and didn't think much of it. However, I noticed over the next 5-10 min he kept holding his arm at a 90 degree angle and wasn't using it at all. He kept whimpering but never really cried hard at all. I didnt know if it was his wrist, elbow, or shoulder that was hurting, but it was obvious something was bothering him. We gave him some Tylenol for the pain then Lenny took him upstairs for a bit n gave him his paci and he fell right asleep so he put alex in his crib and we thought that was the end of it.
We went downstairs to watch some tv and around 930, Alex woke up crying so lenny ran up there to check on him. (I was still quite sore from the C section and really wasn't supposed to be doing too many stairs.) He brought Alex down and said I should probs call the doctors exchange cuz Alex was still holding his arm to his belly and wasn't using it at all. He just laid his sad lil head on Lennys shoulder and whimpered himself to sleep. :( I thought for sure my lil man had landed on it funny and had broken something. I called the drs exchange to see what they thought and they said he would def need to be seen by a doctor so we should head to the ER asap. (As luck would have it, they said we should go to Mercy, where we had just come from like 8 hours prior!) Cue post partum emotional outburst... Omg. The tears were a'flowin and I could NOT stop them. I felt HORRIBLE! Not only because my baby was hurt, but moreso bc he was going to the ER and I couldn't even go with him!!! Waaaa! Mommy fail. :*(. Oh yeah, and did I mention Janine had been admitted to the hospital, was in labor, and was texting me this entire time too? So I was worried/anxious about her also. What a first night home! Sheesh. Should have taken my parents up on the offer to pick Alex up and keep him for the night...
So off Len went to the ER w Alex while I stayed home with the baby. My mom came over to help me out while he was gone.
I figured it was gonnna be a looooong night for that poor guy but it turns out it was just Nursemaids Elbow (common injury in toddlers...the elbow kinda slips out of place and needs to be popped back in) and they were on their way back home within the hour! Alex was good as new and was actually happy bc he got a popsicle at the hospital. Yay! I am SO VERY THANKFUL it wasn't anything more serious. I was just picturing my sweet lil toddler running around with a broken arm in a cast. :( Luckily we have avoided the cast for now though. I'm sure with two boys its only a matter of time before we are back in the ER again. *sigh*
