To have and to hold

Was looking through the camera and found this cute vid we took of Alex holding Nicholas the first night we brought him home from the hospital. Awwww!

Bye bye paci!

Big news around these parts-Alex is officially done with the paci as of about a week ago. Whoo hoo! Not sure how it even happened since we weren't really even trying to break him of the habit just yet. Our goal was for him to be done with it by age 2, but I guess he decided he had had enough and didn't need it anymore so we went along with it.  He did it on his own without a fight and hasn't asked for a paci since. We totes lucked out! Sooooo exciting!

Also, he went pee pee on the potty twice in the last month too. Ahhhhh! I'm pumped! I've been sitting him on the pot every night before bath time for a month or so but I don't think he quite understands the concept. However, I poured some warm water over his ween a couple times and that must have stimulated him enough into actually going pee. Can you believe it? I tried to make a super big deal about it so he knew it was a good thing. Hopefully he will start connecting two and two and we can master potty training early too! So proud of my big boy. :)

These pics have nothing to do with anything but I just think he looks so grown up in them. He's getting big waaaay too fast. He already thinks hes too old to rock in his rockin chair any more and every time we try to rock him he asks us to put him in bed. Breaks my heart. Next thing I know, he will be moving out and going away to college. :(

Great Beginnings, sad endings

Friday was Alex's last day at Great Beginnings. :( It was really hard to leave; we have really grown to love that place and all the teachers there. They have taught Alex soooo much over the past year! I wish there was a way we could keep him enrolled there, it was a great fit for us. Funny because I was so nervous and uneasy about sending him to a public daycare to begin with. They  definitely changed the way I thought about daycares though. I would recommend that place to anyone.

I was determined to make it out of there without crying but ummmmm, yeah that didn't happen. I was fine until we went to pick him up that last day. His teacher, Ms. Michelle, has become really attached to alex and started tearing up as she was giving us all his stuff which of course set me off too, and then it was pretty much Bawlfest 2013 for both of us. Even Lenny got a little choked up. Just sad that Alex won't see any of his lil friends anymore and sad that ms Michelle and the other teachers won't see him anymore either.

I found this cute poem online that was absolutely PERFECT for the occasion. On Alex's last day, we gave his 5 teachers (3 past teachers from the infant room and 2 current teachers from the toddler room) a little gift with this poem attached. Miss them already!

Halloween 2013

Although these are a few days late, here are a few pics from Halloween this year. Both boys dressed up as vampires. Alex actually won the costume contest at his school party! His prize was a coupon booklet for McDonalds. Lovesies!

That night Alex got his first taste of trick or treating. We made it to a total of three houses before he decided he had had his fill. ;) Pretty good for a first timer I guess.

Alex's first trip to the ER :(

Well we had quite a memorable first night home from the hospital. Lenny, Nicholas, and I got home from the hospital in the afternoon. My mom had offered to pick alex up from daycare and keep him overnight to give us time to settle in with the new baby, but we were  excited to get Alex back after being away from him for 3 nights so we declined. We missed him a ton and were anxious to come home w our new baby and just enjoy the night as a fam!

After Lenny picked Zandy pants up from daycare, we drove out to the new house so we could show Nick where we will be living in a few short months. He seemed super excited. :) And rightly so...its a pretty dern cool house!

When we got home from the house, Lenny was in the kitchen fixing dinner and I was in the  living room with the boys. Alex was playing around and stood up on the bouncer, and just as I told him to sit down, he of course fell forward and landed on his arm on the edge of the bouncer.  He cried a lil bit and was holding his arm, so i told him he shouldn't have been standing in the seat to begin with and that's why he got hurt, then I kissed his arm like I always do and didn't think much of it. However, I noticed over the next 5-10 min he kept holding his arm at a 90 degree angle and wasn't using it at all. He kept whimpering but never really cried hard at all.  I didnt know if it was his wrist, elbow, or shoulder that was hurting, but it was obvious something was bothering him.  We gave him some Tylenol for the pain then Lenny took him upstairs for a bit n gave him his paci and he fell right asleep so he put alex in his crib and we thought that was the end of it.

We went downstairs to watch some tv and around 930, Alex woke up crying so lenny ran up there to check on him. (I was still quite sore from the C section and really wasn't supposed to be doing too many stairs.) He brought Alex down and said I should probs call the doctors exchange cuz Alex was still holding his arm to his belly and wasn't using it at all. He just laid his sad lil head on Lennys shoulder and whimpered himself to sleep. :( I thought for sure my lil man had landed on it funny and had broken something. I called the drs exchange to see what they thought and they said he would def need to be seen by a doctor so we should head to the ER asap. (As luck would have it, they said we should go to Mercy, where we had just come from like 8 hours prior!) Cue post partum emotional outburst... Omg. The tears were a'flowin and I could NOT stop them. I felt HORRIBLE! Not only because my baby was hurt, but moreso bc he was going to the ER and I couldn't even go with him!!! Waaaa! Mommy fail. :*(. Oh yeah, and did I mention Janine had been admitted to the hospital, was in labor, and was texting me this entire time too? So I was worried/anxious about her also. What a first night home! Sheesh. Should have taken my parents up on the offer to pick Alex up and keep him for the night...

So off Len went to the ER w Alex while I stayed home with the baby. My mom came over to help  me out while he was gone.

I figured it was gonnna be a looooong night for that poor guy but it turns out it was just Nursemaids Elbow (common injury in toddlers...the elbow kinda slips out of place and needs to be popped back in) and they were on their way back home within the hour! Alex was good as new and was actually happy bc he got a popsicle at the hospital. Yay! I am SO VERY THANKFUL it wasn't anything more serious. I was just picturing my sweet lil toddler running around with a broken arm in a cast. :( Luckily we have avoided the cast for now though. I'm sure with two boys its only a matter of time before we are back in the ER again. *sigh*
